Our “Akaflieg” build session events are regular get-togethers at our Arnold, California facility where folks from all over the world come to learn how to make actual large composite aircraft parts. These aren’t lab experiments; these are actual wing skins and fuselage halves made under practical conditions using practical tools and techniques.
These sessions typically last from five to nine days, depending on what we are making at the time, but you don’t have to stay from beginning to end. We usually rent a cabin for the duration, and provide catered meals. We also include at least one Tech Talk session with a aeronautic development luminary; past Tech Talk speakers have included Paulo Iscold, Steve Smith, and Eric Stewart. We generally collect about $75/day from participants to cover the cabin rental and meals.
